Our Story

Where Vision Meets Structure

How It All Started

Look, I'm not gonna tell you some polished story about "lifelong dreams" and "destined paths." Truth is, Ravencrest Quinth came together back in 2011 when I realized I was tired of working on projects that didn't mean anything.

After spending nearly a decade at bigger firms where every design felt like it got watered down by committees and budget meetings, I wanted something different. Something real. So I took the leap, rented a tiny office on Homer Street, and started doing architecture the way I actually believed it should be done.

The name? Ravencrest is from the street where I grew up in North Van, and Quinth... well, that's a longer story involving too much coffee and a late-night brainstorming session. But it stuck, and honestly, I've grown to love it.

We're not the biggest firm in Vancouver, and that's exactly the point.

What We Actually Believe

Forget the fancy manifestos. Here's what drives us every single day:

Buildings Should Work For People

Not the other way around. I've seen too many gorgeous designs that make zero sense once someone actually tries to live or work in them. Every space we create needs to feel right, not just look good in photos.

Context Matters More Than Trends

Yeah, we do contemporary design, but that doesn't mean slapping glass boxes everywhere. Vancouver's got its own character, and every neighborhood tells a different story. We listen to that.

Sustainability Isn't Optional Anymore

It's 2024, and we're still having conversations about whether green design is "worth it." Spoiler: it is. Always. We bake sustainable thinking into everything from day one, not as an add-on.

Honest Communication Saves Everyone Time

We'll tell you when your budget doesn't match your vision. We'll tell you when an idea won't work. And we'll definitely tell you when we think there's a better way. No corporate speak, just straight talk.

The Journey So Far

2011

The Beginning

Started with just me, a laptop, and way too much optimism. First project was a residential renovation in Kitsilano that somehow didn't go completely sideways. Built the foundation on residential work while learning how to actually run a business.

2014

Growing Pains

Hired our first two team members. Moved into a bigger space (still on Homer Street, just... more square footage). Landed our first commercial project - a boutique retail space in Gastown that taught us a ton about working with heritage buildings.

2017

Finding Our Groove

Started getting known for sustainable residential design. Won our first industry award (which was cool but honestly the client's thank-you note meant more). Team grew to seven people who actually got what we were trying to do.

2019

Expanding Horizons

Dove into heritage restoration work and fell in love with it. There's something about bringing old buildings back to life while respecting their history... it's challenging in the best way. Also started offering full construction management because too many good designs were getting butchered during builds.

2021-Present

Where We Are Now

We're a team of twelve working on everything from custom homes to mixed-use commercial projects. Still in that same building on Homer Street (Suite 402 now). Still doing things our way. The projects are bigger, but the approach hasn't changed - listen hard, design honestly, build something that matters.

What Makes Us Different?

Honestly, we're not trying to reinvent architecture. We just think it should be done with more thought and less ego.

We keep our team small on purpose - means everyone who works on your project actually knows what's happening. We answer our own phones (most of the time). We visit sites more than we probably need to because drawings only tell you so much.

And look, we're not gonna pretend every project goes perfectly. Construction's messy, budgets get tight, weather doesn't cooperate. But we'll figure it out together, and we'll be straight with you the whole way through.
